Sometimes I crave cilantro so deeply that I wonder if I’m solely responsible for compensating for all of the humans that hate this plant. Cilantro haters, I acknowledge you. I don’t understand you, but I know you’re there. You read the title and turned up your nose at the mention of your herby nemesis and if you’re still reading, I thank you, you’re awesome. You can go now and there will be no hard feelings on my end; I hope we can still be friends and that you’ll come back in a few days. Cilantro lovers, if you’re out there, if you can hear me, you’re going to want to try this smoothie!
Recently a good friend turned me on to Pat Flynn’s podcast Smart Passive Income, a brilliant, mostly interview-based collection of 207 episodes of small business information gold. I can’t stop listening and if you’re also building a small online business, I can’t recommend it enough. Anyway, I was listening to episode 205 this week in which Pat chats with Jadah, the co-founder of Simple Green Smoothies about how they built their thriving business and online community. It is an insanely inspiring story and I highly recommend giving it a listen. I was exploring their website as I was listening to the interview and nearly had to hire a lifeguard to navigate all of the drooling that the title “Cilantro Limeade” caused. I knew I had to try it and I can’t wait to do so again and again and again and again.
I used about double the amount of ginger that the original recipe calls for because ginger is my best plant friend right now, and it is SO GREAT for re-revving our digestive and immune systems after slow and dark and heavy winter months. Also, Jadah and Jen’s recipe calls for three bananas and I omitted one of those and subbed it for half of an avocado. I love bananas but they have a very high glycemic index and anywhere that I can cut things like that, I do. Subbing the avocado makes for a less sweet but equally creamy smoothie. Enjoy!
